Procopio Partner Pedro Corona De La Fuente Named A Top 40 Under 40 Professional by the San Diego Daily Transcript

May 15, 2019 (San Diego) – Procopio Partner Pedro Corona de la Fuente was named today a 2019 Top 40 Under 40 Professional by the San Diego Daily Transcript. The newspaper each year celebrates San Diego County “rising stars in real estate, construction, law, finance, government, nonprofits and individual business owner/operators.” Corona de la Fuente was found to be a “top young professional” who has “made an impact on their industry and community.”

“Pedro Corona has demonstrated tremendous commitment to client service and legal excellence during his time at Procopio,” said Procopio Managing Partner John D. Alessio. “We are proud of Pedro, who became one of Procopio’s youngest partners last year. He is more than just a skilled attorney, he has proven to be a very trusted advisor warranting this outstanding recognition.”

Pedro is one of the youngest partners in Procopio’s 73-year history. A member of the firm’s International Tax and Latin America-U.S. Cross-Border practice groups, he advises high net worth Latin American individuals and companies in complex cross-border tax matters on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. His practice focuses on U.S. investment structures, cross-border transactions, tax treaty planning, withholding obligations, and reporting compliance on international transactions.

A native of Mexicali, Baja California, Pedro began his law career practicing in Mexico, where he worked for the Mexican Revenue Service. He joined Procopio in 2007, then left temporarily to earn an LL.M. in International Taxation from the University of Florida, one of the top U.S. universities in that field; he is now an occasional guest lecturer there. He returned to Procopio in 2009, and was elected a Partner on January 1, 2018.

A prodigious legal scholar with regular articles published in the Mexican tax-focused magazine Puntos Finos, Pedro teaches a Masters-level course at the business school of his alma mater, Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, and was the 2013 winner of the International Fiscal Association (IFA) Latin American Academic Award. He finds ways to support his communities both in San Diego County and in Mexico. For example, he has worked as a legal volunteer assisting a non-profit entity in Mexico to reclaim funds lost in the United States. One way he gives back to the legal community is serving as the President of the U.S. branch of the IFA Young Committee.
