
Irvine, CA (January 21, 2026) – Accomplished Southern California corporate law attorney Chyi “Gary” Chen has joined Procopio as its newest Partner. Gary advises on a broad range of corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and private equity financings, commercial agreements, and general corporate matters. He brings significant experience in leading domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, particularly in Asia, as he speaks fluent Mandarin and has lived and worked in China and Taiwan. Based in Procopio’s Irvine office, Gary joins the firm from Stubbs Alderton & Markiles, LLP, where he was a Partner in their Los Angeles office.

Gary counsels clients on a variety of business and legal matters, including acquisition and divestiture strategy, deal structuring, and post-closing integration. He also represents early-stage companies from formation through multiple rounds of venture financing and advises on ongoing corporate governance and regulatory compliance matters. He advises emerging growth and middle-market companies in a wide range of emerging industries, including software, fintech and mobile commerce, and advertising and marketing technology. Gary has also advised clients in media, content development and publishing, hospitality, e-commerce, electronics and hardware, semiconductor design, clean energy generation and storage and real estate development.

Before joining Procopio, Gary served as in-house counsel and held executive leadership roles at investment banking firms, venture capital funds, and multinational corporations across North America, China, and Taiwan, enabling him to advise clients on legal matters with a practical, business-oriented perspective. He has received several leadership awards from the Los Angeles Business Journal. An Ivy Leaguer, Gary earned his BA in Asian Studies from Dartmouth College and his JD from Columbia Law School.
