Procopio Grows its Intellectual Property Practice with Addition of Nine Attorneys, Including Two Partners

June 30, 2020 (San Diego / Orange County / Silicon Valley) – Procopio’s Intellectual Property law practice has expanded with the addition of nine patent law attorneys, including two partners experienced in medical devices and the latest in 5G cellular network wireless technologies. Jonas J. Hodges and Sheree Rowe have joined Procopio as Partners, with Rowe attached to the firm’s Silicon Valley office and Hodges resident in Procopio’s recently opened Orange County office. The addition of the new attorneys and the opening of that office are two developments indicating the firm’s continuing growth during an economic downturn.

“Procopio’s intellectual property practice continues to thrive despite global economic headwinds, so when presented with an opportunity to add to our already award-winning IP attorney team, we moved quickly,” said Procopio Managing Partner John D. Alessio. “Jonas Hodges and Sheree Rowe are a great addition to our IP practice and will be a perfect fit with our client-centric culture. We welcome them and the other IP attorneys joining and look forward to future success together.”

Hodges’ patent law practice includes preparation, prosecution, and infringement and invalidity opinions across numerous electrical, mechanical, and software technologies. He has represented Fortune 500 companies and large Chinese companies with patents involving 5G NR, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, transistor layout, digital circuits, neural networks, lithium ion batteries, and medical devices. He earned an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona and a J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, and began his career as an electrical and software engineer first at Motorola and then Intel.

Rowe’s patent law practice includes preparation and prosecution of patent applications, client counseling for patent matters involving various electrical, mechanical, and software technologies. She has worked with technologies including 5G NR, 4G LTE, electric display devices, lasers, particle accelerators, electric vehicle technology, video production equipment, and medical devices. Rowe also brings experience providing legal analyses regarding patent infringement and validity opinions and patent landscaping. She earned a B.A. in Physics from Utah State University and a J.D. from George Washington University Law School, and earlier in her career was a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office examining electric discharge devices.

Hodges and Rowe previously were partners at Arent Fox, Hodges in Los Angeles and Rowe in San Francisco. An additional seven former Arent Fox IP attorneys are also joining Procopio, bringing a wide range of experience in numerous technologies and fields. Procopio now has nearly 30 IP transactional attorneys and an additional 20 IP litigators serving clients domestically and abroad, in particular Asian companies operating in the United States.

“We’re beyond excited to add two stellar new partners and seven additional accomplished IP attorneys to our IP practice,” said Procopio IP Team Leader Pattric Rawlins. “The expertise of our newest team members in fast-paced industries including wireless technology and medical devices complements the recent addition of life science group Partner Frank Yang late last year and improves our ability to support the broad array of cutting edge technologies developed by our clients here in the U.S. and abroad.”

The other seven attorneys all have patent prosecution experience, including with 5G cellular network technology. They are Gregory Boger, Jason Drake, Eric Figueroa, Chen (Peter) Huang, Anchit Kapoor, Jin-Hoon Lee, and Zizi Liu.

Procopio’s sixth office was opened in Orange County in early March, just before California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statewide stay-at-home order in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Spurring the opening was the addition of a new Construction Law partner, Chambers USA-rated Mary A. Salamone. The Orange County office joins three other Procopio offices in California, with two in San Diego County and one in Silicon Valley. An AmLaw 200 firm with more than 180 attorneys, Procopio also has offices in Las Vegas and Phoenix.
