Procopio finds itself well-represented in the 2020 San Diego Business Journal Leaders in Law contest, with six attorneys today named Finalists. The awards are granted annually to “outstanding legal professionals in the San Diego County law community.” Let’s meet our finalists:

Carole Buckner – Carole is a Partner and General Counsel at Procopio. Her practice focuses on legal ethics, professional responsibility and the law of lawyering, including advising lawyers and law firms, and rendering expert opinions. She also serves as an expert consultant on issues involving legal ethics including legal fees, billing, fee arrangements, conflicts of interest, fee sharing, referral fees, unauthorized practice of law, withdrawal from representation, modification of fee arrangements, client trust accounting, and other issues. Carole is also a certified arbitrator and mediator.

William Eigner – Bill is a Partner at Procopio counseling clients in the areasof venture capital, angel financing, seed capital and financing, governing, operating, buying, selling and merging (M&A) of growing technology and other businesses. Bill’s practice focuses on corporate and business transactions, including matters relating to software, telecommunications, ecommerce, cybersecurity, energy, clean technology, life sciences, corporate governance, franchising, employment and independent contractor issues. He also has extensive experience in intellectual property protection, competitive business practices, securities and business structuring and financing, as well as mergers and acquisitions, contractual and political issues involving telecommunications and independent power producers.

Paul Johnson – Paul is a Partner at Procopio and the leader of its Mergers & Acquisitions and Strategic Joint Ventures practice group. He helps entrepreneurs and their investors get companies formed, funded and sold, including initial formation of corporations and LLCs, negotiation of seed, early and mid-stage equity financings and buy and sell-side mergers and acquisitions. Paul is also adept at venture capital investments, public and private securities offering and compliance and general business counseling. Paul has also counseled some of San Diego’s most successful companies in Securities and Exchange Commission compliance and general corporate governance. He is a member of Procopio’s COVID-19 Legal Resources Team.

Jessica Lazur — is a Senior Associate with Procopio. Her corporate practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions and the representation of companies in their formation and organization, debt and equity financings, securities filings and general corporate matters. She also represents aircraft purchasers and sellers throughout transactions, including assisting buyers in obtaining California sales and use tax exemptions. In addition, Jessica represents pro bono clients, including non-profit corporations, and volunteers her time for non-profit causes.

Cecilia O’Connell Miller – Ceci is the Leader of Procopio’s Insurance Recovery practice group. Her practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and pre-litigation counseling with a focus on insurance coverage recovery. She has extensive experience in representing technology, financial services, life sciences, hospitality, multi-media, health care, manufacturing, construction and municipal clients obtaining millions in insurance coverage for first and third party liabilities under a wide range of insurance policies. Her practice encompasses trial and appellate representation of her clients in arbitrations, state courts and federal courts across the country. Ceci is a member of Procopio’s COVID-19 Legal Resources Team.

Sara Neva – Sara is an Associate in Procopio’s Real Estate practice who counsels clients on real estate, finance and general business transactions. Her practice involves real estate property purchase and sale, commercial leases and easements, joint venture formation and other equity investments, financing, land use and entitlements. Sara is experienced with developers, builders, lenders, borrowers, commercial real estate investors, entrepreneurs, non-profit organizations and commercial landlords and tenants.
