Swenson joins Procopio’s Tax Group from the San Diego office of DLA Piper, where he practiced since 1998. His practice focuses on tax controversy and tax planning. Swenson represents corporations, partnerships and individuals in federal, state and local tax controversies, including audits, appeals, and litigation. He also counsels on tax aspects of business transactions.
Swenson holds a BS in Accounting from Milliken University (Illinois), a JD from the Southern Illinois University School of Law, and an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law. He is admitted to practice in California and Illinois, as well as before the United States Tax Court, and is also a Certified Public Accountant. Swenson has served as an adjunct professor of law at the University of San Diego School of Law. Prior to joining DLA Piper in 1998, Swenson was an attorney with the IRS District Counsel (now Associate District Counsel) in San Diego.
Swenson has also served as chair of the Taxation Section of the San Diego County Bar Association and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Pacific Beach (San Diego) Town Council
