Frederick K. Taylor’s practice areas include commercial and financial institution litigation.
From 1992-1999, Mr. Taylor served as a deputy city attorney with the City of San Diego, where he worked in the civil and criminal divisions. Mr. Taylor has served as lead counsel in 14 jury trials and 4 bench trials and is experienced in arbitrations, mediations and appellate matters. Mr. Taylor has represented clients in a wide range of industries and fields, including: high technology; financial institutions; Internet and electronic commerce; biotechnology and nutraceutical companies; entertainment companies; and public entities, including the City of San Diego and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Representative Matters
- January 2006, assisted in obtaining $1.38 million jury verdict on behalf of the historic U.S. Grant Hotel against its former operator; also in obtaining verdict for U.S. Grant Hotel against the cross-complaint of operator seeking $5 million for breach of contract
- Litigation involving complex fidelity bond coverage issues arising from the collapse of a savings and loan institution
- Defending major financial institutions in lender liability, fraud and the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act
- Litigation involving the theft and use of trade secret protected products by a rival company. Issues in this matter also involved non-competition and non-disclosure obligations of a former employee
- Litigation involving ownership and licensing of an international Internet website and its associated copyrights and trademarks
- Arbitration of domain name disputes before the World Intellectual Property Organization pursuant to the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy
Mr. Taylor received his bachelor of arts with honors from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1988. He graduated from the Golden Gate University School of Law in 1991 and was admitted into practice in California in 1992. He served as an extern to the Honorable Saundra Brown-Armstrong, United States District Court Judge, for the Northern District of California in 1991.
In 2005, Mr. Taylor was awarded the Wiley W. Manuel Pro Bono Services Award by the State Bar of California.
Mr. Taylor currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association as Treasurer and on the Executive Committee of the State Bar of California’s Law Practice Management and Technology Section. Additionally, he has been appointed to the Executive Board for Vista Hill. He is also a Parliamentarian for the California Association of Black Lawyers and an adjunct professor at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
