Firm Background

The downtown San Diego law firm of Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP, today one of the largest law firms in the city, was present at the creation of modern, post-war San Diego. Founded by two young Navy veterans (Alec L. Cory and Edward J. Schwartz) sharing a single 300 square-foot office in downtown's old San Diego Trust and Savings Building, the law firm grew steadily, adding a new partner here and losing one to a judicial appointment there, until the firm's current name was cemented in place in 1967.

Procopio has come a long way since those inaugural years in the late 1940s. Since then, the firm has grown to occupy more than six floors of the Union Bank of California building in downtown San Diego, and currently has nearly 70 attorneys and 120 non-lawyer staff - a far cry from the firm's humble beginnings. Over the years each partner has contributed various legal talents to mold the firm into what it is today - one of San Diego's leading locally based law firms.

The founders built their practice on the principle that providing cost-effective, high-quality legal counsel be the most fundamental responsibility of the firm. Today, members of the firm continue to blend traditional and modern values by invariably placing emphasis on the client. Procopio's experienced professional staff is dedicated to providing clients with innovative legal work, excellent client service, and a responsive, solution-minded approach.

The firm represents companies from a broad spectrum of industries.
