Richard Campbell is the leader of Procopio's Patent Prosecution and Counseling Group. Mr. Campbell concentrates his practice primarily on the creation and execution of intellectual property strategies. He focuses on patent related matters, technology licensing, developing intellectual property strategies and related trademark and trade secret matters. Mr. Campbell has assisted numerous clients, which include start-ups and established corporations, in developing successful patent portfolios. He has worked with companies having a wide range of technologies including communications, software, electronics, computer networks, lasers, optics, semiconductors, medical devices and bioinformatics. Mr. Campbell has a broad range of experience in technology licensing and structuring domestic and international technology transactions. Mr. Campbell worked as an engineer for Raytheon Corporation in the Missile Systems division. Prior to joining Procopio, Mr. Campbell was a partner at Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP.

- Developed intellectual property strategy for privately-held software security technology company and advised on intellectual property matters in subsequent $30 million acquisition by public Internet networking company
- Advised publicly-held global provider of broadband wireless communications products in connection with settlement of patent litigation and related license transaction
- Developed intellectual property strategy for privately-held wireless technology company and advised on intellectual property matters in successful acquisition by a wireless service provider
Mr. Campbell received his B.S. in Applied Sciences in Engineering with a concentration in electrical engineering and computer science with honors from Rutgers University in 1985 and graduated in 1989 from Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. He was admitted to practice law in California in 1989. Mr. Campbell is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, and Central Districts of California.
Mr. Campbell is on the board of directors of the San Diego council of Tech America (formerly AeA). He is a member of CommNexus (formerly the San Diego Telecom council) and CONNECT where he is a member of the Springboard Advisory Board. He also serves on the board and is the former President of the San Diego MIT Enterprise Forum.
