Mr. Talbott is the leader of the firm’s Trust, Estate and Probate Practice Group. His practice focuses on estate planning, trust administration and probate matters. Mr. Talbott is certified as a Legal Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. He is experienced with planning for retirement distributions, family partnerships, life insurance and charitable distributions. Mr. Talbott has assisted clients in establishing private foundations, charitable remainder trusts, multi generational trusts and other entities.
Representative Matters
- Advised the parent owners of a family business on effective methods of transferring the business to children with minimal transfer tax consequences
- Helped increase income for a client with low basis, low income producing assets and a charitable beneficiary planned at death
- Advised various not for profit organizations regarding exemption applications, maintaining exempt status, and complying with self dealing regulations
Mr. Talbott received his bachelor of arts degree from Stanford University in 1980, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa during his third year. He received his law degree from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1983, and was admitted to practice that year.
Mr. Talbott is a past president and member of the San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary Club, and serves as vice chair of Community Eldercare of San Diego, a program affiliated with St. Paul's Manor. He is also a member of the San Diego Foundation's Professional Advisor Council and a director of Voices for Children. In 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011, Mr. Talbott was selected for inclusion in the Southern California Super Lawyers® - San Diego lists in the Estate Planning and Probate category. He is an AV rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell.
